Nature Education
At Brown Memorial Preschool at St. Thomas' we are committed to bringing our children into nature as well as bringing nature into our classrooms. We believe that when children are allowed to explore, they gain a greater understanding and respect for our environment and the natural world.

Below are a few of the goals of our Nature Education Program:
 FOODChildren will learn about where food comes from by participating in planting seeds, watering, weeding, harvesting, preparing, and tasting. |  SEED TO PLANTChildren will learn about life cycles by planting seeds, caring for plants and harvesting seeds. |  WILDLIFEChildren will become environmental stewards by caring for a certified Monarch Way Station, planting native plants, removing invasive species, planting sunflowers for birds, feeding birds, and providing nectar for hummingbirds. |

 BUTTERFLIESChildren will learn about life cycles by observing butterflies: lay eggs, hatch, grow as caterpillars, complete metamorphosis, and become a butterfly. Also by watching birds build nests, lay eggs, and hatch. |  EXPLORINGChildren will learn about the organisms that live around them by exploring a digging area with a decomposing log, and visiting the butterfly garden. |  NUTRIENTS CYCLEChildren will learn about the nutrient cycle by collecting food scraps, composting, and returning the nutrients back to the garden. |
 IMAGINE NATUREChildren will learn about the importance of nature by interacting with it as they build, create, and imagine. |  NATURE ARTChildren will appreciate the aesthetic beauty of nature as they use natural materials in the classroom, cut flowers from their own garden, and integrate natural materials into their art and play. |  RECYCLINGChildren will learn about recycling by actively participating in a school wide recycling program. |
 WATERChildren will learn about water conservation by catching rain in rain barrels and using it in the garden. |  TADPOLE TO FROGChildren will learn about life cycles by observing: frog eggs, tadpoles and frogs |  EXPLORINGChildren will learn about the organisms that live around them by exploring the stream and the animals that live in it. |
